Asana Sequences

Asanas are usually practised in sequences where each asana influences the following one. Some poses can be treated as preparation for others, or stages leading to the final pose. Let us take a closer look at the way of going into and out of two standing poses : Trikonasana and Parsvakonasana.

[edit] Trikonasana (Triangle Pose)

I can begin with Tadasana, then jump into Utthita Hasta Padasana, from there go to Parsva Hasta Padasana. I practise these poses with the same caution and awareness. I look for links between the way I feel in each pose. I also focus on the movement. For example, before I go to the final stage of Trikonasana, I ask myself: If both sides of the body are to have the same length in the final pose, how should my movement look like? How should my hips move?

Asanas such as Tadasana and Dandasana are symmetrical poses and are often practiced between other poses or as initial and final stages. Coming back to the initial - symmetrical - pose makes it possible to feel the effects of the final pose.

[edit] Parsvakonasana

Parsvakonasana is an asymmetrical pose, in which I can stretch one side of the body from the foot to the fingertips of the hand. Having done this pose on both sides , I come back to Tadasana. Staying in Tadasana for a while, I compare the length of each side. I observe the difference between the initial Tadasana and the final one.
