How to work with yourself

A good yoga practice should help to integrate different aspects of ourselves and our lives.

Why is this so important and why do we tend to disintegrate?

Working with ourselves is much like team work. The mind is the leader of the team and it creates a picture of what we want to achieve, a certain vision. If we want to realize our vision, it is necessary that other members of the team listen and collaborate. If they refuse to collaborate, we become frustrated and our vision is wasted.

At that point it might be tempting to separate ourselves from that part in us that seems imperfect. This part can be the body, or any aspect of our lives that seems not to work in what we consider to be the proper way.

Working with ourselves as wholes can be difficult because we cannot change the members of our team. We cannot exchange our body, our emotional reactions for better ones. Disintegration might be tempting, but it can only achieve short-lived results.
